# Melees

Close-combat blades in MetaSpace are called Melees. They usually shine in tight spaces, surprise attacks, and when shootables run dry of ammo. Higher-class melees offer increased damage, special effects, or better handling. This can give players a real edge in duels, ambushes, or arena brawls where positioning and timing complement skill.

### Daggers

Daggers are lightweight, ultra-fast blades perfect for agile fighting. They offer great mobility, rapid attack chains, and low recovery times.

### Hammers

Hammers are heavy, impact-focused weapons built for crushing blows and crowd control. These are high-RoI weapons that deliver serious damage per hit with strong knockback or area effects on impact. Though slower than lighter melees, hammers shatter defenses, stagger enemies, and dominate when you need to break through tough opponents or groups.

### One-Handed Axes

One-handed axes strike a balance between speed and power, allowing fast swings with one hand while keeping the other free for mobility. They provide good chopping damage, excellent reach for their class, and reliable control in fluid combat.

### Shields

Shields are defensive tools that block incoming attacks. They absorb damage from projectiles or strikes, reduce incoming harm, and can bash enemies for knockback effects. Shields improve survivability in prolonged fights, protect allies, or create openings for high-impact follow-ups.

### Swords

Swords are elegant and balanced melees that offer smooth handling, consistent damage, and versatile attack patterns. They reward skillful timing and positioning, making them a go-to for players who want adaptability in duels or other close-range combats.

### Two-Handed Axes

Two-handed axes are massive, high-damage axes designed for heavy impact. Though they sacrifice some speed and mobility, two-handed axes excel at clearing groups, breaking heavy armor, or landing game-changing hits in critical moments.
